Introduction
While working at creative development agency Devlift Media, I helped develop a consumer-facing virtual reality product for automotive dealerships. My role included conducting market and user research, shaping the product’s rollout strategy and designing a demo video for the application. Due to confidentiality, I can’t share the full process, but below is an overview of the product concept, its go-to-market direction and the value it offered to dealerships.
The Product
VR Test Drive is a computer-generated, fully immersive application that allows dealership customers and prospects to explore and interact with vehicles in a virtual reality environment.
The experience can be accessed at home on a personal device or in-store using a VR headset paired with touch-based interactions.
With the rise of consumer VR technology, dealerships can offer a highly engaging, low-cost way for customers to experience a vehicle before stepping inside one.
Features
VR Test Drive goes beyond a simple interior tour by allowing users to engage with the vehicle through custom clickable hotspots that highlight interior design options, specifications and technology features.
For example, hotspots can toggle between colours and trims so customers can visualize their future car in real time. Dealerships can also showcase prototype or upcoming models, giving customers access to vehicles not yet on the lot.
At the end of the experience, users can order their customized configuration, book an in-person test drive, save their build or share it on social media.
